Lawrence Gaughan is a credited actor/director/producer, a non-profit founder, a former congressional candidate, and teacher. He was raised in Virginia and attended college at the University of Montana, where he received a BA in Theatre in 1994. After nearly 20 years working in film, TV, and theatre, Lawrence went back to school, earning his Masters degree in Non-Profit Social Work from Pepperdine University in 2013. He then briefly returned to his hometown in Virginia where he won a major party nomination to run for Congress, garnering over 73,000 votes in the 2014 general election. He also started the non-partisan civic engagement foundation, GOV360, and was executive director of the environmental non-profit, Sofantic. Between 2019 and 2024, Lawrence served faithfully as a high school teacher on Kitsap in Western Washington State.
Since 2020, Lawrence has released seven albums of original Indie Alt/Rock music, playing all the instruments (including bass, guitars, drums, keys, loops and samples), engineering, mixing, mastering, and producing his songs. His musical influences come from Blues, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s Rock, Folk, Techno, Trance, Funk and Punk, often incorporating West African and Middle Eastern musical styles. Lawrence released his 7th album at the end of January, 2026 with his own unique versions of Amazing Grace and Swing Low Sweet Chariot (along with a some originals), and it is available on all major platforms and in online stores.
